Regs reforms

<p>Government officials and industry figures have begun a “full and frank”dialogue on the Building Regulations and their reform. At a roundtable discussion, which may be the precursor of a regular working group, stakeholders including the HBF, NHBC and DEFRA, were given an opportunity to feed back thoughts on the regulations. </p> <p>Speaking to Housebuilder before the meeting, under secretary of state for Building Regulations, Angela Smith, said: “I am conscious stakeholders have identified problems and we want to engage in debate. I am quite confident this kind of event will help our collaborative approach and if we can include that on a ministerial level I think it will be worthwhile.” </p> <p>Smith added she would look at streamlining documents and making guidance as clear as possible. “Some of the documents were very thick; a balance needs to be struck between providing the information the industry needs and brevity.” She admitted that the government wanted to improve the implementation process after the controversial introduction of Part L. </p> <p>“These are really important regulations and looking back at how Part L was implemented there are areas we would like to do better in.
