<b><b>Most garage doors have an impeccable record yet Andrew Leech finds that it is only now that all makers have a new EN standard to fulfil</b></b><br><b>Surprisingly there has never been a dedicated standard for manual garage doors but one is just about to hit the driveway. Within the next few weeks a new European Standard (EN 13241/1) product specification will emerge with which all manufacturers must comply.</b><br><b>Graeme Crosbie, joint md of Garador, points out: &amp;“The only product standard that&amp;’s been available was for electrically operated models. So this is a first. </b><br><b>&amp;“Although there haven&amp;’t been any significant problems, the Standard addresses some of the design issues, especially from the health and safety perspective. For instance it aims to ensure that a door doesn&amp;’t come crashing down. It either gets stopped or it falls in a controlled manner. After all, it&amp;’s the biggest moving object in a house. </b><br><b>&amp;“So as reputable manufacturers we ought to be able to stand up and say we meet a specific level of safety and security.&amp;”</b><br><b>In addition to taking on board the standard&amp;’s requirements, Garador has a new system with a universal steel frame allowing openings to be built before the final door style is chosen. …
