Framing Solutions, set up by Corus and Redrow executives, aims to produce 6,000 homes annually using its Surebuild 3 system launched in April. Paul Pedley, Redrow chief executive, believes the steel frame market is well placed to grow because timber frame is &“virtually at full capacity.&” <p></p><p> Surebuild 3 offers a broader range of components than its predecessor which executive director Andy Robertson says will enable greater flexibility. </p><p> &“Broader choice will enable systems to be designed specifically for projects, utilising the best option to enable the whole system to be lighter, more structurally efficient and capable of going above five storeys. </p><p> &“Steel frame offers far greater predictability in terms of building cycle as there&’s no reliance on bricklayers; it has advantages over timber frame too including less shrinkage, it&’s less likely to warp, and steel costs are more stable. Our clients include Willmott Dixon, Persimmon, Crest, Cameron Homes and many other housebuilders are considering steel.&”</p><p> Rollalong uses timber, lightweight cold-rolled steel and heavy gauge hot-rolled steel as structural frame materials to provide building solutions up to nine storeys in height.
