<b><b>Roger Shoesmith, joint chief executive of Space Group and pioneer of Krashpad, is bringing back the bedsit - albeit a high tech version - in Manchester. Jeremy Gates reports</b></b><br><b>Six months from now, the tower block which could redefine the art of urban living should be climbing up into the fast-changing skyline of central Manchester - and Roger Shoesmith, architect turned developer, will have a clearer idea if his concept is ready to go around the world.</b><br><b><b>Bedsit land</b></b><br> &“This is the McDonald&’s of city centre living&”, says 49 year old Shoesmith, who ran his own architectural practice in the north west for 13 years until 1997. His move away was perfectly timed and his urban redevelopment company, Space Group, is well-positioned as Manchester&’s urban renovation hots up.<p></p><p>Last year, Space Group was selling apartments from just under &£100,000 and prices now top &£200,000 - but Shoesmith remembered those who could not buy, rather than those who could.</p><p>&“So many came in, business people mostly, who wanted a base in the heart of the city for occasional use.
