<b><b>A new European directive will soon affect insulation specifications. <i>Housebuilder</i> reports on Rockwool&’s plans to tackle the situation</b></b><br><b>The EU Construction Products Directive (CPD) is set to create major changes to the manufacture and specification of factory-made thermal insulation products for the non-industrial market.</b><br> This will add to the recent impact on the specification process in the construction industry as a result of the new Building Regulations.<p></p><p><b><b>rigorous tests</b></b><br> Brian Roberts, md of Rockwool, says the company&’s products are the first to demonstrate compliance to the rigorous third-party European CPD test methods, and it has introduced proof of this compliance via new labelling.</p><p>&“The CPD was established in 1991 to examine product safety and to break down technical barriers to trade in construction products between member states of the European Economic Area,&” says Roberts. &“CE Marking is the visible declaration of compliance to the new harmonised standard EN 13162 and demonstrates that the works in which they are incorporated will satisfy the essential requirements of the CPD.&”</p><p>While the physical labelling of a product through CE Marking will not be mandatory for thermal insulation products, compliance to the CPD will be mandatory by March 1 2003.
