What I like about Housebuilder (apart from the modest royalty cheque) is the fact that it’s not afraid to take a sideways look at current industry issues. For instance, where else would you find Andrew Whitaker and Kirstie Allsopp mentioned in the same sentence? Who they? Many readers will, of course, be familiar with the sometimes moody, always outspoken, know-it-all property guru, but few will perhaps know that the other fronts-up a house buying programme on prime time telly, popular with newly-affluent 30-somethings in the south east. So what do they have in common? It’s all in last month’s magazine. <br><br>Andrew Whitaker (head of planning at HBF, in case you didn’t know) reckons that Kirstie (and Phil and the rest of the Location, Location, Location team) should be credited with turning us into a nation of property investors – something that, in the article, Kirstie is very happy to accept. But I don’t think it’s just Kirstie and Phil. There’s a whole bunch of me-too programmes if you surf the so-called lifestyle channels on the Skybox.
