Trial funding to boost photovoltaic use

<b></b>The use of photovoltaic systems in residential schemes has been given a boost by the announcement of a package of new measures from the government to encourage their development.<br><b>The measures include &amp;£20 million over three years for a new major phototvoltaic demonstration project and an extra &amp;£1 million allocated to the current field trials.</b><br><b>Trade and industry secretary Patricia Hewitt announced the measures at the opening of the Beddington Zero Energy Development (BedZED) in Sutton, Surrey. The scheme - a partnership between The Peabody Trust and the BioRegional Development Group - embraces a host of environmentally friendly features including photovoltaic panels, which have been installed by BP Solar.</b><br><b>Bob Dudley, BP&amp;’s vice president for renewables, said: &amp;“These incentives will provide a very real stimulus to the PV market in the UK.&amp;”</b><br><b>There are 82 homes at BedZED, 34 for sale, 23 shared ownership and ten let to key workers. The first residents have now moved in.</b><br>
