May 1, 2003
Numbers of site visitors and net reservations continue to lag behind last year&’s levels according to the latest HBF monthly survey of housebuilders. The balance of respondents reporting visitor levels stood at -19 in March, worse than February but still an improvement on January&’s -30 figure. The net reservations figure for March stands at -14, an improvement on both the previous months. Despite this, housebuilders still expect higher sales this year than last and report prices rising each month. Government figures report an 8% increase in starts in the three months to February compared to last year and a 6% increase in completions.

HBF Monthly Survey Summary ResultsActivity in the month compared with the same month a year ago (balance*)& DecJanFebMarSite visitors -15-30-15-19Net reservations -3-34-18-14Net house price change during the month (balance*)& +35+29+28+29Companies expecting higher sales in 2000 (balance*)& +41+46+36+39The HBF survey is based on responses from over 400 companies across all regions of Great Britain weighted to take account of their size *Balance: % reporting an increase less % reporting a decrease (Great Britain)
